The Art of Team Coaching

Team coaching is one of the fastest growing fields in coaching, yet little is understood about the Art of Team Coaching.

Georgina believes that team coaching is significant and essential as almost all organisations are structured around teams, yet very few teams are effective.

The challenges are well known – individual star players who put their own agendas ahead of the collective endeavour, silos and turf wars, death by meeting, pervasive conflict or an insidious yet comfortable passivity that achieves little – to name but a few.

However, teams can also be the source of creativity, innovation, transformation and dynamic change.

The power of a team is infinitely more than the combined power of the individual players, but only when the team can harness its talent rather than drown in the swamp of difficult dynamics.

How to harness this talent?

The growing number of books on coaching, filled with tools, theoretical concepts and frameworks can lull coaches into a false sense of security that the team coaching will be successful as long as the steps are well planned, and the coach is well armed with knowledge on what makes teams high performing.

The reality is very different as team coaching can be difficult, messy, unpredictable and challenging.

Coaches who are not prepared in themselves to engage with this reality can struggle. This preparation is about developing our capacity to be fully present to the team, the organisation and to ourselves as coaches.

When we are mindfully aware we can notice the dynamics and translate this into meaningful dialogue rather than get consumed by trying to maintain or regain our presence.

The most effective team coaches dance the moment, they are able to stand in the fire of uncertainty or frustration and to use themselves as their primary coaching tool.

They are being a team coach rather than doing team coaching. To me, this is the essence of team coaching.

In this webinar, we will interview Georgina Woudstra to explore:

  • The core competencies of team coaching;
  • What is ‘presence’ and ‘use of self’ in team coaching;
  • What is takes to dance in the moment with a team.

Bring your own experience of working with teams, as a team member, team leader, team facilitator or team coach - its all relevant.

We will share the Executive Coach Studio (ECS) Team Coaching Competencies with all registered.
