Mapping Motivation for Engagement 

Engagement strategies enable people to be the best they can be at work leading to increased performance, productivity, and profitability. But this can only happen if they feel involved, well-led, and valued by those for whom they work. Developing the right attitudes, behaviours, and outcomes are intrinsic to employee motivation and engagement.

Employee engagement can be seen as ultimately being about performance because, harnessing the discretionary effort of people, does improve performance. If individuals are performing at the top of their potential and capability then it makes sense that teams, divisions, departments, and organisations will work more effectively together.

Customers will receive better service and efficiency will improve. Waste will be reduced. Overall performance will be enhanced. However, improving employee engagement requires a systematic approach and involves some key strategies.

If coaches, trainers, consultants plus businesses, including in house personnel, have a framework, and a tool kit then they have an opportunity to create the right environment to harness the full potential and capability of employees, to drive success in an organization.


In this webinar series you will:

  • What is Employee Engagement? Does it matter? And if it matters what needs to happen?
  • The 8-point plan for engagement based on the four enablers and how to measure them.
  • The cost of getting engagement and motivation wrong in the workplace.
  • The benefits of getting it right.
  • How to financially justify an engagement programme to those who see it as ‘fluffy’.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of Engagement. They will have a toolkit and a process to not only work in business on engagement issues but a way of selling it to the most discerning individuals who see it as ‘fluffy’.

Attendees will learn the 8 key steps to Engagement and how to measure them in an organisation, which provides a framework to improve individuals, teams and business performance.

Participants will also learn the ‘nine’ key motivators at play in the workplace and how to describe, measure, monitor, and maximize these motivations for the individual and the business to drive success.

We will also consider key learning points such as:

  • the performance triangle of direction, motivation, and skills and why it is changing with millennials;
  • the two way relationship between employee and employer;
  • intrinsic values and the employee’s awareness of the business context;
  • creating a “wanting” not just a “having” to come to work;
  • effective reward and appraisal systems linked to motivation;
  • how to nurture an environment where employees are motivated to connect with and care about their work.

In this webinar, we explore what Employee Engagement is and is not. Whether it matters? And if it matters, what is to be done. We will explore what “good” looks like and an 8-point plan for measuring and improving the situation.

Webinar 2: The Consequences and Rewards of getting Employee Engagement wrong/right

In this webinar, we explore what it is like to work in an organisation where engagement and motivation are poor. With some tangible examples of the cost of getting it wrong. We then move to explore what it is like when you get it right and the rewards of getting it right. In this session, we also look at how to tangibly demonstrate that this is not a ‘fluffy’ unimportant, nice to have, but rather a key component to success.

Webinar 3: How to Describe, Measure and Monitor, Motivation for individuals, teams, and organisations

Motivation is a word often used but seldom understood. In this webinar, we look at the ‘nine’ key motivators for individuals at work. How to describe them, measure them and monitor them. We look at the key differences between motivation and personality.

We look at how motivation can be impacted negatively or positively and why conflict occurs and how to avoid it.

Webinar 3: How to Maximize and align Motivation for individuals, teams, and organisations using a Motivational Action Plan.

In this webinar, we look at how you create a plan, an action and an outcome around motivation. Once we understand what motivates staff, it is easy then to measure how much that motivation is getting fed and how to create an action plan to maintain and/or improve this motivation so that everyone benefits from full benefit of discretionary effort. It will cover how coaching around these motivations can massively improve performance.


Preparation & Resources

Each registered participant will have the opportunity to undertake a Motivational Map which will take about 20 minutes of undisturbed time. This will be fundamental to the whole programme.

The programme will be accompanied by multiple resources, including video clips, powerpoint presentations, and handouts, plus the chance to get a 15-page motivation report.

Recordings and slides will be made available for all registered participants.


Speaker Bio

Steve Jones is a well-known business coach, public speaker, trainer, and consultant. Steve is an expert at creating ideas and strategies that build businesses, drive revenue and improve business position & performance. He has a passion for making companies and their products the best in their product category.

Steve’s unique understanding of leadership and management, team building and motivation in business, coupled with his understanding, drive, and enthusiasm, clearly set him aside as an expert.

Steve gained his knowledge and expertise firstly by being part of the management team of one of the UK’s most phenomenal business success stories. Steve was part of a management team at Fitness First PLC, which went from a handful of health clubs on the south coast to become the largest Health Club Chain in Europe and then the world, taking the AIM and FTSE by storm, all in a seven-year period. Steve freely admits: ‘one of the keys to our success was putting together robust systems and teams fast!’

Steve followed this by joining International Coaching Giants, Shirlaws International - a specialist in SME Coaching – again a company that had an amazing success story, before setting up his company, Skills for Business Training in 2002, where his main focus has been helping businesses and teams strategically grow.

Steve is qualified to the highest level, being a fellow of the Chartered Management Institution, is a master ‘train the trainer’ in NLP, a master licensee for ‘Motivational Maps’, Thomas International DISC Profiler, an accredited trainer in ‘Performance Coaching’ with Newcastle College, and accredited in ‘Leading & Developing High Performance’ programmes.

More recently Steve has been invited onto the Government's Employee Engagement Task Force team where he was co-chair and has been contributing his knowledge in the areas of team building, motivation and performance improvement, whilst at the same time running a series of workshops for Grant Thornton’s Growth Accelerator Programme.

Steve has also written two books: ‘Turning on Your P.R.O.F.I.T.S. Tap’ showing business owners how to create revenue and profit in their business and ‘Mapping Motivation for Engagement’ which he has co-written with James Sale, the founder of Motivational Maps Ltd.
