Coaching Diversity

Coach people completely different to you: challenge yourself by building a modern coaching brand

For most of us, our first clients are frequently people we know. New clients tend to come through the old one. Unsurprisingly, these new clients are cut from the same cloth as us and those that referred them. You may say that you coach a wide variety of people from all walks of life (and some of you certainly will), but in reality, if we’re really honest, most of our coaching happens with articulate, relatively privileged, professional people in a certain age bracket. While there is nothing intrinsically wrong with this, we can get stuck in our comfort zone: similar thought patterns, similar topics, similar outcomes.

There are 3 zones of learning:

  1. Comfort Zone – where you don’t learn much
  2. Fear Zone – where you learn a lot very quickly or nothing at all
  3. Stretch Zone – where you explore the boundaries of what you’re used to, challenging yourself, while still relying on the foundation of skills you are comfortable with.

As workplaces become more diverse and flexible, the types of people that need and seek coaching will do the same. Make sure you’re ready to take on the challenge.

In this session, we will explore why coaching people different to you will enable you to grow as a coach; where to find them and how to ensure you’re operating in your comfort not fear zone.

Our speaker, Charlie Stainforth will draw from his experience as CEO at Circl – where they train managers to teach and practice coaching skills with school students from less privileged backgrounds.

In this webinar, we will interview Charlie Stainforth to find out:

  • Why coaching people that are different to you will enable you to grow as a coach & build your business

We’ll look at case studies of how managers on the Circl programme have changed the way they communicate after coaching local school students

We’ll look at how your coaching brand will be improved when you don’t coach the same people over and over again.

  • Where to find your clients:

We’ll explore which channels to use to find new coachees. Looking in different sectors.

  • How to ensure you’re operating in your stretch and not fear zone.

We can explore coaching styles, self-disclosure theory, and rapport building techniques that you can use to ensure the coaching sessions are a challenge but not an overwhelming one.

Preparation

Come with an open mind and a willingness to be curious and playful.

Be ready to join in and share your own reflections, experiences, and questions.
