About the event
The Association for Coaching (AC) are delighted to welcome Elise Sernik for a workshop titled The Social Purpose Economy: Half truths, dangerous myths and complete nonsense
The Social Purpose economy in Australia is a $55 million sector, equivalent to 4% of GDP (which is larger than many well recognised industries in Australia), and employs roughly 9% of the Australian workforce. The sector is an appealing area to be working in for many coaches and facilitators due to its promise of values-alignment, meaningful impact and good people.
In this session, non-profit sector expert and coach, Elise Sernik will facilitate a conversation which takes a deep dive into the unique strengths and challenges of leaders and organisations in this part of the economy. We’ll look at the landscape and the ecosystem which supports the sector, and the learning and insights coaches need so that they constructively contribute to the causes they care about rather than accidentally or inadvertently tripping up due to misconceptions, myths or misleading dogma.

Elise Sernik founded Leadership Space in 2013 as a social purpose business. Prior to establishing Leadership Space, Elise supported the launch of the successful search firm, People for Purpose and prior to that spent many years with the iconic sector firm, Social Ventures Australia (SVA).
Elise’s background includes strategy and management consulting in the sector and commercially, social purpose leadership roles in Australia and the UK, and an early corporate career. Elise is a professionally certified coach (PCC) with parallel training in psychotherapy and mindfulness. In 2015, Elise was awarded for her contribution to the non-profit sector by the International Coaching Federation, NSW.
