The world in which coaching was born is not the world we live in now, much less the world that is emerging. A new paradigm is called for if coaching and coaches are to adapt. Drawing from his soon-to-be-released book on The Five Maturities, Dr David Drake will explore the new paradigm and what it is calling for from us as coaches.

David will talk about:

• Why maturity and mobility are as important in mastery
• Why we need to shift from compliance to integrity as our measure
• Why the session will become less important in how clients get coaching
• Why we need to be freed to take on multiple roles with clients
• Why we need to work further upstream and downstream with our clients

Dr. David Drake

Dr. David Drake is a coaching pioneer who has worked in this space for nearly 30 years. He is the Founder of The Moment Institute, an innovative global learning community. He is an Advisor and Contributor to Ovida and two other AI/coaching startups. He has used his work with clients such as ARM, APSC, CBA, Dropbox, Google, Logitech, Nike, Westpac, VPSC.

He is the creator of four bodies of work: Narrative Coaching, Narrative Release, Integrative Development, and The Five Maturities. He is a Thought Leader for Institute of Coaching, an inaugural member of Coaches50, a 10x WBECS Summit speaker, and an EMCC Master Practitioner.

Systemic Supervision is a reflective approach that supports coaches and organisational leaders to step back and consider the wider dynamics influencing their work. Drawing on principles of system dynamics and constellation approaches, it invites participants to explore situations through a broader lens and consider what may be shaping interactions, challenges, and responses beyond the individual client or team, including what may be accessed through the felt sense beyond purely rational meaning-making.

The session is designed to be interactive, reflective, and accessible to those who are curious about systemic approaches in supervision and coaching practice. No prior experience with constellations or systemic work is required.

What you will learn

• A brief introduction to systemic principles and constellation approaches as they relate to coaching and leadership,
• A lightly facilitated experience to help participants reflect on the systemic lens in practice,
• Exploration of one or two participant challenges to support broader perspective taking and consideration of possible next steps.

Karen Tweedie
Karen Tweedie MCC is a systemic coach, supervisor, and trainer with more than 30 years' experience supporting leaders, coaches, and leadership teams. Over the past 15 years, Karen has undertaken extensive training in Family and Organisational Constellations and has integrated systemic coaching principles into her coaching, facilitation, and supervision practice. Her work is grounded in the belief that when leaders and coaches attend not only to individuals, but also to patterns of relationship, role, history, and purpose, new clarity and movement often emerge.

Karen is a member of the Coaching Constellations faculty founded by John Whittington and presents Coaching Constellations programmes in Melbourne. She also facilitates Stepping Stones; a series of monthly workshops designed for those new to systemic work and those seeking to deepen their practice.

About the event

Research to Practice is designed to provide a virtual space for peer-to-peer discussion of an evidence-based topic of focus. These facilitated sessions aim to encourage a deeper conversation to inform your practice, sparked by a key area of research or theory relevant to coaching and development. Our topic is inspired by an article in the Journal of Positive Psychology which argues that while AI can enhance wellbeing at scale, it may simultaneously erode the human capacities required for genuine flourishing (van Zyl, L.E., 2026).

Our Community of Practice is a virtual participant-led space aimed at fostering shared learning through emergent, collective dialogue on topics brought to the group by the participants. Rather than following a fixed agenda, attendees bring their own questions, challenges, and areas of curiosity from their work and professional practice.
