Coaching Approach

In this Demo, our speaker, Dr. Catherine Sandler, draws on a psychodynamic perspective when coaching executives. This means that she focuses on understanding the feelings that lie both above and below the surface of the coachee’s conscious awareness as these are often the ‘invisible drivers’ of attitudes and behaviour.

Through attentive listening, observing and questioning, she aims to identify:

  • the individual’s characteristic patterns of relating to others at work and to her during coaching;
  • and how they deal with pressure and threats to their sense of psychological safety.

This can lead to greater clarity as to the coachee’s strengths and those areas where their approach is not serving them well. This, in turn, can lead to a helpful exploration of new, more effective behavioural strategies.

In this webinar, Catherine Sandler demonstrated:

  • How she ‘got alongside’ the coachee to build trust and rapport;
  • A proactive style of coaching which moves flexibly between facilitation and guidance;
  • The importance of acknowledging and exploring the coachee’s emotions;
  • The value of identifying patterns in the coachee’s behaviour.

Coaching Approach

Action Learning is an experiential learning approach that provides the framework and methodologies to advance leadership skills while solving complex business challenges. This is done in conjunction with others, in small groups. It is particularly suitable for workplace and leadership learning, as it enables each person to reflect on and review the action they have taken and the learning points arising. This can then guide future action and improve performance.

Besides problem solving, Action Learning simultaneously develops leaders thanks to its simple rules, which force participants to think critically and work collaboratively. As a leader, the Action Learning coach assists group members in reflecting, not on their problem solving, but on the elevation of their group functioning. Action Learning participants become effective leaders as they solve difficult problems.

In this webinar, Shannon Banks demonstrated:

  • How action learning can be used to simultaneously solve real business problems while developing leaders.
  • How the six components of action learning come together to increase the effectiveness of action learning.
  • The role of the action learning coach in accelerating the performance of the group.

Shannon worked with five volunteer coaches in this webinar and used the World Institute for Action Learning (WIAL) approach.

Coaching Approach

Motivational Maps provide an insight not only into what motivates individuals in their career, they shed light on potential internal conflict interfering with the clarity of direction and they also highlight potential mis-understanding with those with different motivational preferences.

During this webinar, our Coach, Bevis Moynan, uses the motivational map of coachee Lynn to help both gain career clarity going forward. He also sheds light on the use of motivational maps as part of the beginning of a coaching journey.

Bevis is the author of motivational mapping for coaching and this webinar is for anyone interested in career coaching, their own career development and those responsible for the development of others in the workplace (internal coaches, HR practitioners or L&D practitioners).

In this webinar, Bevis uses the Motivational Mapping coaching tool to demonstrate:

  • What motivates the coachee?
  • How that is likely to change in time
  • The cost of getting engagement and motivation wrong in the workplace.
  • Any internal conflict or potential misunderstanding with others and what

We will also consider key learning points such as... how to use enhanced knowledge to improve career clarity and the setting of appropriate career goals.

Coaching Approach

Clean Coaching provides a different, simple yet highly effective approach to one-to-one facilitation. It is a style, strategy and set of techniques that help coachees gain insight and make changes by discovering more about their own ‘insider’ perspective: of themselves and the world around them.

Through the use of specifically-phrased, structured coaching questions, the coach’s own biased perspectives are stripped from their language, ensuring the coachee’s unique personal experience is honoured.

The Clean Coaching approach incorporates the Clean techniques developed by the late great David Grove, including Clean Language, Clean Space, and Emergent Knowledge.

Who this is for?

This webinar is for all coaches interested in encouraging their coachees to take more responsibility during the coaching sessions and for taking action afterward. Also for coaches wanting to experience an approach to coaching that encourages creativity and a different, deeper way of thinking.

By the end of the demonstration, you will learn how you can be non-directive as a coach without becoming direction-less. You’ll witness how doing less means your coachee has the opportunity to grow more. Finally, you will see how simple resources like the space around the coachee and the metaphoric language they use can be the fuel to creative discovery.

Angela has worked with Clean Language experts around the world including the late great David Grove, the counseling psychologist who created Clean Language. Angela has been teaching ‘Clean’ techniques for coaches since 2005 through the Clean Coaching Centre.

We invited Aboodi Shabi to demonstrate “Coaching Beyond Techniques”. Rather than focusing on a specific technique or approach, this coaching session is open and offers a chance to see how to set our theories and techniques aside, and simply be with the coachee, and let that presence and connection inform the coaching.

In this webinar, Aboodi Shabi demonstrates:

  • the value of coaching presence;
  • The art of listening;
  • when not to use all the learnt coaching techniques.
