GB Virtual Event: Next Level Coaching: A New Developmental Lens for the Future of Coaching

Traditional coaching has focused on models, competencies, questions, presence, and relationship. These matter, but they do not fully explain why some coaches hear more, notice more, and intervene at greater depth than others, or why two coaches using the same model can produce very different outcomes.

This session introduces Constructed Development Theory as a new lens for the coaching profession. Next Level Coaching examines the real-time construction of both coach and client: how each organises meaning, attention, emotion, language, choice, and response in the moment.

Participants will explore Cognitive Intentions, the unconscious thinking patterns that shape how people interpret themselves, others, problems, relationships, and possibilities. An Identity Compass profile can offer a powerful entry point, but the deeper aim is to recognise Cognitive Intentions as they emerge live in conversation.

The session then introduces Real-Time Modelling: listening not only to what the client says, but to how they are constructing their reality as they say it.

• Coaching is not just a conversation; it is a live construction of reality:

  The client is not simply “telling their story.” They are constructing self, other, context, limitation, possibility, and choice in the moment. The coach is doing the same. Next Level Coaching makes that construction visible.

• The coach’s awareness limits the depth of the coaching:

  A coach cannot reliably develop what they cannot perceive. The coach’s own level of awareness shapes what they hear, what they miss, what they normalise, and what they are able to challenge.

• Cognitive Intentions reveal the structure beneath the client’s language:

  Clients give clues to their thinking style through language, attention, emotional framing, time orientation, motivation, comparison patterns, and decision logic. Cognitive Intentions allow the coach to hear the architecture beneath the content.

Impostor Syndrome (also known as Impostor Phenomenon) refers to feelings of being a fraud and underestimating capability despite contrary evidence. In this session, Charlotte will share more about this change model, grounded as it is in her research, 30+ years of practice as a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Change Manager, and more recently, as a Chartered Coaching Psychologist. This change model is practical and useful for both coaching conversations and across a full coaching programme.

One key aspect the model brings alive is the difference between what a client does and how they do it. Clients often miss this distinction which can have consequences on their ability to create sustainable change.  Charlotte will share real case studies from the research that brings this to life.

Participants will leave with a framework to apply in their work, a set of coaching questions mapped to each step, and a clearer understanding of why some clients get stuck and others don’t.

GB Virtual Event: Resourcing Clients Through Change

During 2019 and 2020, Charlotte Sheridan conducted 75 hours of interviews with 108 people in 27 countries who were navigating changes in their life and work. 

One pattern emerged consistently across her research: clients who successfully navigated change weren’t just the ones with the clearest goals, they also had the right resources to sustain them.

Charlotte will explore what this means in practice — drawing on chapters from her book Swim Jump Fly to map the full range of resources that enables sustainable change. These include mindset and self-belief, values and acceptance, physical health and rest, skills and money, and the quality of support from the people around us.

The session is designed to give coaches a way of identifying what may be missing for their clients when their change projects run into difficulty.

Participants will leave with practical tools to use with clients and a richer, more systemic understanding of what it means for a client to be ready for change and to sustain it.
