GB Virtual Event: Bereavement of Job Loss

As coaches we are confronted with grief and loss issues. in its various guises. not only bereavement around death. Many changes we encounter with clients can engender a grief at the loss of something we once had and is no longer available.

In these turbulent times, the increase in people losing their jobs for whatever reason is on the rise again.

Holding a space for clients to process their feelings of grief and loss, even if they don’t use those terms, is essential. We need to be able to help clients process an ending before charging off down the next avenue of change in their careers. Even when we voluntarily resign from a role there can be unacknowledged endings that require reflection to enable a smooth transition to what’s next.

This session will provide tips on tuning the radar to spot loss issues in coaching as well as how to handle the variety of emotions associated with job loss such as redundancy, retirement, being fired.

We will examine the Kubler Ross Change Curve as well as Bridges’ Five Stages of Endings.

The session will be a mix of discussion and a case study to include break out rooms in small groups.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • Increasing awareness of the type of loss topics brought to coaching
  • Spotting the signs and symptoms of grief and loss even when your client doesn’t
  • How to handle unexpected loss when it arrives in the coaching room
  • Introducing change models to clients to enable a shift in understanding of their own reactions to loss
  • Appreciating the power of exploring previous endings with clients to detect patterns and learn lessons
