Coaching Abrasive Leaders - Forming the Coaching Alliance

Abrasive leaders are usually referred for coaching by the employer, as they tend not to see themselves as abrasive or needing development. This interpersonal “blindness” can provoke intense anxiety and defensiveness in their first contact with the coach.

This Live Coaching Demonstration addresses how to quickly develop a trusting alliance with the coachee in order to move ahead quickly to working on his/her management style.

Speaker Bio

Laura Crawshaw, Ph.D., specializes in researching and coaching abrasive leaders. In the past 40 years she has worked with clients at Fortune 500 companies, the United Nations and NASA. She founded the Executive Insight Development Group, Inc. in 1994, and the Boss Whispering Institute (dedicated to research and training in the specialty practice of coaching abrasive leaders) in 2009.

Dr. Crawshaw is the author of Taming the Abrasive Manager: How to End Unnecessary Roughness in the Workplace. She speaks internationally and is also a Founding Fellow of Harvard's Institute of Coaching.
