137 & 138: The Curiosity in Cognitive Behavioural Coaching with Dr Rob Willson

“Where is the focus of your attention? Internally or externally?”

Claudia Day is joined by Dr Rob Willson, an experienced cognitive behavioural practitioner and trainer, in part one of their in-depth discussion on Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC).

In part one of this conversation, they discuss what CBC is, why and how it works and how coaches can put this into practice. As a therapist, Rob shares why he became interested in coaching and why cognitive behavioural theories and practice align well with coaching, particularly in the workplace.

Learn about the research and empirical evidence that assists this approach and examples of performance situations that arise in the workplace. Discover how CBC can help, as well as what other approaches are it’s ‘closest cousins’.

In part two, Claudia becomes a coachee in a live demo. Listen as Rob demonstrates the curiosity and skills that can help Claudia understand and find solutions for what appears to be a simple problem. As she discovers and Rob observes, “it’s always a little deeper than you think it’s going to be.”

Following the demo, they discuss the benefits and challenges of using technology with this approach, as well as how efficient CBC is when used in a group or team setting.
