How to Face the Mess We're In: A Transformational Resilience Toolkit

Led by Dr Chris Johnstone, “How to Face the Mess We're In” will take you through Chris’ transformational resilience toolkit that will equip you to prepare for what may lie ahead and respond in ways that make better versions of what might happen become more likely.
Transformational Resilience goes beyond just adapting to or recovering from periods of disturbance.
This webinar series offers tools and concepts including adversity-activated development, pre-traumatic growth, and a narrative framework mapping out different types of Resilience.

Description
of each webinar
Webinar 1: The preparation stage of change
Have you ever not wanted to look at a problem because it feels too disturbing? Or wondered whether a client feels this way?
If so, having a ‘preparation stage of change’ can build trust, safety, and a stronger starting point from which to approach challenging areas.
This first webinar explores ways of resourcing ourselves, with network enhancement and gratitude practices shown to protect mental health, build Resilience and strengthen motivation to act for collective wellbeing.
Webinar 2: Facing the storm
‘The mess we’re in’ refers to a breakdown in functioning or recognition that we may be heading this way.
Whether with climate change, financial crisis, organizational collapse or the experience of burnout, there's a departure from a safe territory as we head into the 'red zone' of challenge.
This webinar explores how we can support ourselves and our clients when they sense things are falling apart. The session introduces practices that help us navigate the emotional rollercoaster of crisis and make turning points towards recovery more likely.
Webinar 3: Helping shift points happen
Have you ever believed that something would never be possible for you but later found yourself doing it?
A shift point is an occasion of significant progress in a more extensive journey of change. This webinar explores game-changing insights about how personal and systems-level change happens, challenging the limiting belief that we can’t change the world. We look at practices that make shift points more likely to use ourselves and share with our clients.
Webinar 4: Everyone has a unique part to play
If you knew you could not fail and had all the courage you might need, what would you most want to do to address the issues that concern you? Is there a particular hope that calls to you?
This webinar introduces ‘inner compass tools’ that help us find our direction when feeling lost or unclear. Applying a growth mindset to change-making skills, we look at ‘active hope’ as a practice for collective wellbeing we can engage in daily, even when facing areas where we might struggle to feel hopeful.
Preparation
No preparation is required before joining; however, Chris recommends two books as companions for this webinar series:
Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re in with Unexpected Resilience and Creative Power

Transformational Resilience: How Building Human Resilience to Climate Disruption Can Safeguard Society and Increase Wellbeing
by Bob Doppelt (Routledge, 2016)
Active Learning
Participants are invited to try out a practice between sessions to help embed the theory and change methods into their existing practice.

Registered participants will gain access to the webinar recordings and slides after each session, along with resources from the speaker, such as pdf handouts for each webinar.
