Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Coaching
Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) has its roots in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, by far the most evidence-based of all therapeutic approaches.
The focus of this four-part webinar series is to provide a grounding in the fundamentals of applying the cognitive behavioural approach in a coaching context. It will look beyond ‘disputing’ self-limiting beliefs and give insights into how the current research and theory can enhance coaching practice. Join us to learn the fundamentals of managing and changing unhelpful thinking patterns to improve your clients’ effectiveness and wellbeing.
Who is this webinar series for?
This webinar is for new coaches, seasoned coaches, executive coaches, personal or career coaches and internal coaches.
In this webinar series you will learn:
• The key distinctions between CBT and CBC • How to formulate client difficulties • Key elements of CBC theory and related principles • The role of attention, imagery, and behaviour in CBC • Managing and changing unhelpful thinking patterns
Description
of each webinar
Webinar 1: Fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) Theory This webinar will cover the fundamentals of CBC theory and the principles that inform practice. The session will also cover the distinctive differences between Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and CBC. Webinar 2: Socratic Questioning Socratic questioning encourages the pursuit of an idea or thought in different directions, in order to determine the meaning that underpins it. In this webinar we will explore how to help clients to thought guided discovery (and when to simply explain).
Webinar 3: Formulation This webinar will focus on building a shared understanding of the key cognitive, behavioural, emotional, physiological, and contextual elements of a client difficulty.
Webinar 4: Changing Thoughts to Change Behaviour (and vice-versa) This final webinar will introduce some of the key CBC techniques to support change. We will cover strategies for working with imagery and attention. Rob will encourage us to look beyond changing thoughts and beliefs to other important areas of cognition.
Active Learning The sessions will include opportunities for self-practice and small group discussion.
Resources
Registered participants will gain access to the webinar recordings and slides after each session. Handouts will be provided for skills and techniques, and a reading list will be given for each session.
