GB Open Book Series: The Coaching Leader: Coaching Skills for Leading Through Complexity

In this session, Ian Day introduces the core ideas from his new book, The Coaching Leader: Coaching Skills for Leading Through Complexity. Drawing on years of coaching senior leaders across multiple sectors, Ian explores why traditional command-and-expertise leadership is no longer effective in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment.

The workshop provides a clear, evidence-led roadmap for how leaders can integrate coaching skills into their leadership style — and how coaches, HR, and L&D professionals can support this shift inside their organisations. The concepts will be illustrated through real coaching scenarios, leadership challenges, and practical tools coaches can immediately apply in their work with leaders and teams.

It this event you will learn:

  • Why leaders struggle in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments
  • The core principles of The Coaching Leader and how they strengthen leadership impact
  • Practical coaching tools for enabling leaders to navigate complex, interconnected problems
  • How Coaching Leaders surface hidden expertise and involve the wider organisation
  • How the shift from telling to asking improves performance, culture and decision-making
  • How coaches, HR, OD and L&D professionals can help develop Coaching Leaders

Who is this event for?

This session will be of interest to individual and corporate members. The session will explain the essential skills and mindset for leaders to integrate coaching skills into their leadership repertoire, to enhance individual, team and organisational performance.
